Beautiful Torment (Beautiful Series Book 1) by Paige Laurens

This is the first book in the Beautiful series.

We both knew it was wrong.

But nothing has ever felt this right.

He’s a teacher.

I’m his student.

But that doesn’t stop us.

Some people fall in love at eighteen, and I guess I’m just one of them. Sometimes it lasts forever, and sometimes it ruins you. But that’s what love does, right? It makes you wish and hope for impossible things.

Luci Cunningham’s entire world is turned upside down when she walks into chemistry on the first day of school. She didn’t expect her teacher to be so… hot.

I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were good and the storyline was good.

Luci was a good character, as was Josh. The spark between them was good and I enjoyed how they were together. It was clear that there was a connection, and I enjoyed watching it build until they couldn’t keep apart. I loved the forbidden element to it.

The storyline was good. Josh did wrong though. I could kind of see where he was coming from with his actions, and I believed what he said at the end, so technically is it cheating? It doesn’t make the situation any less wrong though and I completely understand Luci’s reaction.

I’d like to see him grovel, so I’m intrigued to read the next book.

The only reason I dropped a star is because I didn’t feel as invested in the characters as I usually do. There was just something missing to stop that, although I can’t place my finger on what. That extra bit of emotional investment just wasn’t there. Nevertheless, they were still good characters and I still enjoyed the story.

Overall, I would recommend this book, especially if you like a forbidden teacher-student relationship.

My rating: 4/5*
