Finch Merlin and the Everlasting Vow by Bella Forrest

This is the 15th book in the Harley Merlin series and the 6th one in the Finch Merlin series.

No more Mr. Nice Guy…

Finch is tired of people jerking him around—and now, it’s time for payback against the powerful forces who have made him a pawn in their games. Returning to the surface world is his endgame, but while that seems nearly impossible, especially when a certain Necromancer and demigod have teamed up to take Finch out of the running, Finch plans to use all the tricks up his sleeve on his enemies. And before he’s force-fed the love potion that will ensure he loves Princess Kaya forever.

Good thing Shapeshifters are known for their trickery.

I love this series and enjoyed reading this book. The characters are brilliant and the storyline is great. The plot developed at a good pace, although this one was a little slower than the past books.

Finch is a brilliant character and has been the whole way through the series. He’s having so much bad luck happen to him, and it only gets worse in this book. I’m feeling sorry for him.

Erebus surprised me in this book. He’s been this big bossy, evil Child of Chaos the whole way through, but in this book, we saw a little humanity to him.

Kaya has been a very surprising character. She’s come across all nice until nearer the end. It was interesting to get in her head in this book, and trying to see her point of view on things, but she really isn’t listening to anyone else.

The storyline has been great, although in this book, it developed a little slower. It was interesting to see more of Atlantis and their way of life. The last few chapters made up for the slow development though. I’m looking forward to seeing what will happen next and how Finch could possiblly fix the situation.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this series. The characters and storyline are great.

Darkmore Penitentiary (Supernatural Prison for Dark Fae Book 1) by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

This is the first book in the Supernatural Prison for Dark Fae series set in the Zodiac Academy world of Solaria.

“We’re going to own you.”
“We’re going to break you.”
“When we’re through with you, you won’t remember life before you were ours.”
That’s what they whisper as I pass their cells.

Ha. Guess what bastardos? I’m Rosalie Oscura, champion underground cage-fighter and freaking Alpha Werewolf from the infamous Oscura Clan. My family wrote the book on criminal organisations and I’ll be ruling this place by the time the next moon rises.

Papà always said my hot head would land me in here one day. The supernatural prison they call Darkmore Penitentiary. Where they send the cruellest, most dangerous Fae in Solaria. Like me apparently.

I’ve always had a thing for Alpha males, but the ones in here don’t have a thing for me. Especially after what I did to them…

I accidentally insulted a ruthless Lion Shifter and riled up his army of cutthroat followers.

I may have enraged the sinful Incubus who’s been condemned to isolation for committing an unspeakable crime.

Despite my better judgement, I taunted the sinister Vampire guard who has a dark vendetta against me.

And I kinda deceived the black-hearted Werewolf who rules over my sworn enemies. Though I blame fate for that one – bitch never was on my side.

I don’t know why I’m surprised, I always did have a knack for getting into trouble.

Just look at my criminal record:

Driving Under the Influence of the Moon (I’m a Werewolf, I’m always under the influence of the moon, duh)

One count of MIPS – Minor in Possession of Stardust (I’m just glad they never figured out why I was using it)

Bedazzlement (I can’t help it if I dazzle people into giving me their money)

Alpha Wolf Status Abuse (It’s calling being a leader, idiotas)

Hijacking a Pegasus and riding him through a rainbow on private property (Totally his idea)

Coercing two members of law enforcement to dance naked on the top of their vehicle for seven hours (What’s not hilarious about that?)

Bank Robbery (All that gold was getting lonely stuck in that vault)

Murdering a security guard (Alright I regret that one, but it was a total accident)

So maybe I deserve to be in prison, but do you want to know a secret?

I planned to get sent to Darkmore Penitentiary.

I’ve come to break out the most notorious criminal in Solaria.

The trouble is, I need the help of the four Alpha males to get out of here. And they happen to hate each other almost as much as they hate me.

But I always did love a challenge.

How hard could it be to make them accept me as their leader?

This book was brilliant. I loved the storyline, I love the characters and I loved seeing another side to Solaria.

Rosalie is absolutely brilliant. We saw a younger her in the Dark Fae series, but seeing how she’s grown was brilliant. She’s strong, clever, and a true Alpha.

I loved the guys as well. They are all so different. It was great to see Roary. He is coming across so different to how he was with Leon in Dark Fae. Ethan was also a great character and I enjoyed seeing Rosalie and his relationship developed, especially seeing how they’re from different gangs. Sin was also an interesting character. It’s the first we get to see of an Incubus and I’m looking forward to seeing more of his personality.

Cain was by far my favourite. His relationship with Rosalie was brilliant to read, although frustrating at times. I really want to see him relax a little and just give in to his feelings, but also given his position, I can see why he doesn’t. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of him and seeing how his relationship with Rosalie develops.

The storyline was brilliant and the plot developed at a good pace. The ending was frustrating. I’m looking forward to reading the next book and seeing how the story develops.

I would definitely recommend this book, and indeed, all the books based in Solaria.

Spark (Academy of Unpredictable Magic Book 1) by Sadie Moss

This is the first book in the Academy of Unpredictable Magic series.

Magic exists. I know—it’s in my blood.

Unfortunately, not all people from magical bloodlines have powers, and at 22, I’m several years past the age they usually appear. So I’ve resigned myself to a boring, magic-less life.

Then something strange happens…

I get stuck in the middle of a bar fight, and instead of just punching the guy back, I blow a hole in the wall.

So… I guess I do have powers. But they’re unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. This shit is definitely not normal.

And it seems the magical authorities agree, because they give me a choice: either I go to school to learn to control my crazy new magic, or they’ll take it away. Permanently.

Now if I can just survive the bitchy mean girls determined to take me down a peg, the mysterious attacks on students, the three hot-as-hell guys who don’t seem turned off by my prickly exterior, and the professor who makes me long for detention, maybe I’ll get out of here in one piece.

Wouldn’t bet on it though.

Welcome to the Academy of Unpredictable Magic.

I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were good and the storyline was good.

Elliot was a good main character. She was stubborn but strong and brave. I love the guys. Dmitri, Cam and Asher are brilliant. They each have their own personalities. Roman was brilliant. Everything about him was great. I’m looking forward to seeing how her relationship with each of them develops.

The storyline was great and I enjoyed how the plot developed. I feel there was something missing though in the way it was written. There seemed to be a lot of telling and not showing. Nevertheless, I liked the storyline.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book. I’m looking forward to reading the next one. The characters were great, the storyline was great and I’m intrigued to see how it’s going to develop.

Royals of Villain Academy 3: Sinister Wizardry by Eva Chase

This is the 3rd book in the Royals of Villain Academy series.

Do I want to spend my summer with my vicious classmates at Bloodstone University—better known as Villain Academy? No, thank you. But I’ve got to find a way to tackle my enemies before they try to destroy me again, and the trail to potential answers starts there.

I’ve had it with taking the high road, though. Come at me, and you’d better believe I’ll hit you back just as hard. Maybe that’ll mean I have to tap into my dark magic instincts more than I’d ever have planned to, but I’m not letting one more person I care about get hurt.

That also means I’ve got to steer clear of the one guy I completely trust, or I might ruin his life too. With two of the other scions vying for my attention and the last shifting his campaign against me in an unexpected way, I’ve got my hands full as it is.

I can’t say whether I’ll survive everything this summer has in store. All I know for sure is it’s going to be a hot one.

I enjoyed reading this book. It led on from the last well, the characters are good and the storyline is good.

Rory is a great main character. She’s strong willed and nothing is bringing her down. She doesn’t really fit in with the others, but she’s using her position as best she can to try and make good of everything.

The boys were definitely better in this book. I like Declan although I think that he’s still being over caucious. Jude and Connar were better in this book too and Malcolm was less of an arsehole. I’m enjoying seeing the relationship between them and Rory gradually grow.

The storyline was good. I like the little mysteries that are being uncovered, like the Professor’s mystery key and her odd grandparents. The ending was also a shocking one and I’m looking forward to seeing the plot develop in the next book.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book. The characters are great, the storyline is good and the plot is developing at a good pace.

Alchemy Academy release

‘I released another scream as a sharp pain pulsated through my head. I even felt Miles recoil a little next to me.
“We need to do something,” I could hear the desperation in his voice.
“Let me try something.”
I saw the blurred figure of what I assumed was Levi leaning over me. He began mumbling some sort of Latin, or so I thought it was.
Pain pierced my skull like a sledgehammer had slammed into it and I screamed again, louder and harder.
Then it stopped.’

Welcome to Alchemy Academy.
We’ll give you the building blocks to harness your natural power and control your magic. You’ll learn to let the waters flow and let the fire burn strong, to let the earth shake and the winds blow. The only limit is yourself.

I was never meant to be on this island, but my own curiosity got the better of me. The Shadowmaster let me stay for whatever reason. Everyone seems to be able to do magic, except me.
Yes, magic is indeed real.
I don’t belong here.
But I’m Roxy. I make the best of any situation and this one will be no different.

Alchemy Academy is out now!
It would be amazing if you could check it out, or at least share this post!

Darkblood Academy: Book One: Half-blood by G.K. DeRosa

This is the first book in the Darkblood Academy series.

Welcome to Darkblood—oops, I mean Darkhen Academy.

There are three rules to survive the elite supernatural school:

  1. Do not talk or even look at The Seven, the uber-powerful supes that rule the academy.
  2. Never go into the Fae forest on a full moon… or else.
  3. And most definitely do not fall for one of the extremely hot and unattainable instructors.

Too bad I’ve never really been a rule follower…

A year ago the supernaturals came out of the closet on primetime TV, and about a minute ago I, Luna Hallows, found out I was one of them—well, a half-blood anyway.

So here I am at Darkhen Academy, the only human and no magical abilities to speak of. The only reason I’m here is because of my father—a man I didn’t even know existed until now. He’s crazy powerful, and they think I could be too. But what could I possibly contribute to an exclusive squad of dragon shifters, fae, witches, and vampires?

I guess we’re about to find out because the merging of the supernatural and human realms isn’t going as smoothly as planned. If word gets out that humans are no longer safe from the supes, our worlds will once again be closed off.

It’s up to us to stop that from happening.

I enjoyed this book. It had a good storyline and the characters were good.

Luna was a good main character. She may be human, but after being thrown into this new life, she copes well. It was good seeing her character develop into the strong girl she ends up as at the end. I’m looking forward to seeing how she continues to grow and develop alongside her powers.

The other characters were good. The 7 were all interesting characters. They were all different and had their own traits. I’m looking forward to seeing how the relationship between Luna and the squad grows now she’s a part of them.

Ryder was a great character. I loved reading the relationship between Luna and him grow. It was a little frustrating at points, like, just go for it, but I understood his reservations. I’m intrigued to see how the relationship develops in the next book.

I liked the storyline although it did take me a little while to get into. The last third of the book did really pick up though. I also felt the way it went around swearing was annoying. Either do it or don’t. Don’t do the annoying half swearing/word switching thing that was going on. It was annoying to read.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book. The storyline was good, the characters were good and the plot generally developed well.

I was debating over my rating for this book, whether it be 4 or 5*. The last third of the book really grabbed me though so I opted to go higher, but it’s only just scraping that 5. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book though.

My rating: 5/5*

Magic Gambit (Hidden World Academy Book 3) by Sadie Moss

This is the third and final book in the Hidden World series.

Okay, so things have gotten a little bit crazy around here.

The good news is, we know what we’re up against now.

The bad news? I don’t know if we stand a chance.

I have absolutely loved reading this series. The characters are brilliant, the storyline is great and the plot developed well.

Gabbi has been brilliant from the start. She has grown in to this strong person who’s adapted to this strange life she never know existed. I’ve loved reading her journey.

The boys have been brilliant too. Each of them has their own unique features, yet they have worked so well with Gabbi. Their connection was great to read.

The storyline was brilliant. It was a good end to the series, and I loved how it concluded for everyone.

I loved how Roxie ended up in this book. I felt like we really got to know her just through what Gabbi experienced, but having her turn up more in this book was great to read. They may look alike, but their personalities are so different.

The ending was very satisfying for everyone. I’m sad that the series has ended, but at least it’s ended in the best possible way.

Overall, I have absolutely loved reading this series. The storyline has been great and the characters are brilliant. I would definitely recommend it.

Demon of Mine (The Devil Heart Boys Book 1) by Caroline Peckham

This is there first book in the series although it can be read as a standalone as well.

Jack Mandeville just became my worst enemy and cruellest nightmare.
He hates the world.
Hates blondes.
But most of all, he hates me.

The worst thing about all of that? I have to live with him.

When my life falls apart and I’m taken in by the father of the devil himself in one of the most prestigious parts of London, I quickly discover there’s something seriously strange about Mandeville Place. Something supernatural.

My dreams are disturbed by dark spirits. And it sounds totally mad, but I’m certain something in this house is pushing me toward the boy who’s sworn to make my life a living hell if I don’t keep away from him.

Avoiding him at school is not easy. Him and his intimidating friends run this place, including every student and teacher in it. They’ve already turned the whole school against me and I know if I step a toe out of line things are going to get much worse.

I have to figure out what the ghostly presence in the house is trying to tell me. But that means discovering how far Jack will go to keep me away.

I enjoyed reading this book. It had a good mix of paranormal, mystery and romance. The story was great, the plot developed well and the characters were great.

Elle was a good character. She went through so much, yet managed to stay strong and came out of it better. She learnt things about herself which she didn’t even know.

Jack was also a great character. We saw him go in a full circle. The tough jerk who evidently has a soft side.

The romance between them was great to see develop. From hate to love.

I also enjoyed the paranormal mystery involved. Crime, demons and ghosts. This book had it all.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book.
