Gunmetal Lily (Mafia Wars) by Rebecca Royce

This is the second book in a shared world series called Mafia Wars. Each book is a standalone.

I was sold to my enemies.

There was a deal made to keep the peace. War wasn’t good for business. But deals were broken all the time. What did these powerful families have as collateral? Their daughters. A decade earlier, they decided that we were expendable, that we could be sold in marriage to keep their dealings honest. I didn’t matter more than the security I could bring to the marketplace. I was twelve when they decided that, in ten years, I’d belong to the Hernandez family. Everyone knew what was coming for me. Everyone…except me.

I have no choices. The daughter of mobsters, I now belong to the Mexican Cartel. But even the terrible images those words evoke are nothing compared to what is coming for me. My new family will discover I am more than just a pawn in their chess game. I’m named after a flower, but I don’t wilt. I am determined to come out ahead in their Mafia Wars.

I loved this book. The characters were fantastic and the storyline was brilliant.

Lily was a brilliant character. She found out about the arranged marriage, like, a day before. Considering who some of the families were, it could have been a horrible situation, but I think she actually got lucky. She’s a strong character throughout and I loved her relationship with the three brothers.

Alejandro was a fantastic character. I loved him. Considering who he was, he was kind. He did everything to make Lily happy. I felt for him and his past, and I loved Lily’s reaction to it. It was brilliant watching their relationship develop. Watching him fall for her was probably the best part of this book for me.

Francisco and Javier were fantastic as well. I loved their loyalty to their brother. They were kind to Lily as well. I loved watching them fall for her and I loved the relationship develop between them.

The plot was good. Someone was betraying the family and ultimately, Lily paid the price. I loved the devotion her three men had and the lengths they went to for her. The ending was good and it was nice to see everyone happy. They ultimately did everything to make her the happiest she could be.

Overall, this book was a brilliant continuation the the Mafia Wars series. I loved the characters and the story.

I would definitely recommend it.
